THE ERCOL STORY
Ercol has been making exceptional furniture since 1920, when it was founded by Lucian Ercolani in High Wycombe. Since the beginning, ercol’s goal has been to produce beautifully designed furniture. ercol’s signature curves that still feature in their designs today, originated from Lucian’s efforts to master the art of steam-bending wood. During the second world war, ercol were committed to the government to produce 25,000 tent pegs a day, along with other resources that were intended for British soldiers. In 1945, Lucians two sons became joint managing directors and to this day, ercol firmly remains a family run business. Lucian’s hard work earned him an OBE in 1976 for his contribution to UK design and manufacturing. ercol continue to bring elegance and beauty into people’s homes today.
In 2002, ercol’s factory moved from its original location to Buckinghamshire. Here, they combine state of the art technology with tried and tested techniques to create their ever-growing range of iconic furniture. The factory was designed to increase ercol’s sustainability, this included implementing large windows to make the most on natural daylight, sound proofing to reduce noise pollution and motion lighting in effort to avoid unnecessary wastage. They use a biomass boiler, fuelled by wood and sawdust that would otherwise go to waste, to heat the factory and offices.
